Each year, ExxonMobil and the Bernard Harris Foundation team up to fund approximately 20 universities throughout the United States to host this prestigious summer camp. Since 2008, Shangri La has annually participated in the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp that is held at Lamar University in Beaumont. For two weeks, students live on the campus at Lamar University and attend a variety of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) classes. Shangri La was hand-picked to participate in this program to create a unique life science class that includes STEM concepts and practices.
Each summer this program serves 48 local underserved students, Grades 6 through 8, who show great promise in science and/or math. If you have a student who is interested in attending this program, contact Dr. Otilia Urbina at 409.880.7793 or by email: Otilia.urbina@lamar.edu.
