Region 5 Fine Art Teacher In-Service

Prepare for your school year with an in-service designed to meet YOUR needs. This two-day in-service will provide Fine Arts teachers with the opportunity to make art while exploring the Stark Museum of Art and Shangri La Botanical Gardens. Special sessions will be offered highlighting VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) and local art contests. Teachers will also enjoy special demonstrations led by local artists and will learn new techniques to use in the classroom. This workshop is recommended for K-12 Fine Arts teachers. Registration is free for teachers and will provide ten (10) CPE hours.
 
 
Artists and Adventurers in the Classroom

Get ready to take your students on an adventure this fall! During this 4-hour workshop, teachers will get a sneak peek of the special exhibition, Paul Kane: Intrepid Artist and Adventurer, hear from Exhibition and Museum curator, Sarah Boehme, as well as work with Museum educators on two hands-on studio art projects focusing on sketching and watercolor painting. Teachers will also have the opportunity to review the jurying process for the 2018 Juried Student Art Exhibition: This Land Was Made for You and Me. This workshop is recommended for art teachers and K-12 teachers interested in integrating social studies and art. Registration is free for teachers and will provided four (4) CPE hours.
 
 
Educating with Primary Documents

The best way to learn history is by actually interacting with it! When students analyze primary documents, they practice critical thinking, bias identification, and problem solving skills. During this 4-hour workshop, teachers will learn strategies for finding and utilizing primary documents in the classroom. Using the archive as a resource, teachers will learn how to locate primary documents pertinent to their curriculum, how to prepare students to decode documents, and how to assess student understanding. This workshop is recommended for 6th-12th grade history teachers. Registration is free for teachers and will provide four (4) CPE hours.
