Carving Out Time for Sculpture

Explore three cost-effective and easy to teach techniques that will get your students thinking in 3-D during this 5-hour workshop designed just for art teachers. We’ll tackle three different processes that can be scaffolded for elementary to high school students, visit the galleries to generate new ideas to get students talking about sculptural media, and discover new sculptors and artworks that can be used to inspire your students. This workshop is free for teachers and will provided five (5) CPE hours.
Get Ready for VASE

VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) is coming to Region 5 in 2017 and will be hosted at the Stark Museum of Art! The only program of its kind in the nation, VASE provides academically eligible high school students in Texas the opportunity to compete at the regional and state level based on a standard rubric guided by the TEKS. Join us for a 4-hour workshop to learn about VASE and how your students can build their portfolios, practice critical evaluation skills through writing and interviews, and compete for an opportunity to participate in the State VASE competition and win scholarships. This workshop is free for teachers and will provide four (4) CPE hours.

Do you have what it takes to design a museum exhibition? During this 4-hour workshop, you will discover the interdisciplinary skills required to create a great exhibition and learn how to bring your student research to life through designing mock-exhibitions. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum, meeting key staff that helps create the exhibitions you see. After the tour and visiting our newest special exhibition, Collecting Conversations, we’ll head to the Studio to create our own exhibits and discuss ways to measure learning using exhibition techniques. This workshop is free for teachers and will provide four (4) CPE hours.
A New Frontier: Digital Media

Join us for this 4-hour workshop as we explore new approaches to art-making using digital media. We’ll get inspired by the films and works of art featured in the special exhibition Branding the American West then learn about apps and open-source programs being used by students and teachers across the country. This workshop will include strategies for implementing digital media with limited resources and incorporating these techniques into your existing curriculum. Participants should bring their own device. This workshop is free for teachers and will provide four (4) CPE hours.
