The Long Shadow: The Lutcher-Stark Lumber Dynasty is on view at the Stark Museum of Art, based on the award-winning book of the same title.
Historic photos tell the story of the families’ struggles and success in the piney woods. Land was cheap, but they borrowed money to buy it. Fires destroyed sawmills and offices. Henry J. Lutcher patented fire- fighting equipment and argued for deep water ports. This exhibit connects the founders with their ongoing legacy in Orange and Southeast Texas.
