The Stark Foundation Library & Archive supports the research needs of the professional staff and volunteers across all Stark Cultural Venues. The Library holds more than 7,800 volumes on a wide range of subjects from art to zoology. Some of the items are from the personal Library of H.J. Lutcher and Nelda C. Stark. The Library collection focuses on the art of the American West, natural history, and early botanicals. It is particularly strong in the area of the Taos Society of Artists, and others represented in the Museum’s art collection. The Archive collection houses the Lutcher and Stark family papers, letters, and scrapbooks, as well as other local primary source history material.
Scholars from universities across America, Canada, Mexico, Russia, and the Netherlands have studied works in our collection. The Library is open to scholars by appointment only.
The Bibliographies listed below offer recommended readings and other resources on selected artists and objects in the collection. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, contact the Library & Archive Manager at 409.886.2787 or jhconnors@starkmuseum.org.
