The Stark Museum of Art’s special exhibitions gallery is closed from August 21st – October 21st to prepare for the Paul Kane: Intrepid Artist and Adventurer exhibition.
Paul Kane contradicts the common stereotype of the reclusive artist. From 1845 – 1848, Kane camped and canoed across the North American continent, sketching in watercolor and oil paints along the way. He wanted to record the landscape and the people before they changed. This exhibition presents Kane’s first-hand works exploring regions through the artist’s eye.

Stark House and the Stark Museum of Art, throughout the year. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Shangri La and its partners participate in the Blue Star Program, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families. Though admission is now free to the Gardens, participation in this program is still near and dear to our staff. Go to arts.gov/bluestarmuseums for more information.
