Exhibition Galleries of the Stark Museum of Art
The Stark Museum of Art’s special exhibitions gallery is closed from August 21st – October 21st to prepare for the Paul Kane: Intrepid Artist and Adventurer exhibition. In addition staff are reinstalling the Exploring America’s Frontiers and Picturing the Wild West galleries from September 12th – October 13th. The Portraying an Idyllic Place and Creating from Traditions: Arts of the American Indian galleries as well as The American Birds of Dorothy Doughty, Edward Marshall Boehm porcelain birds, Steuben Glass – The United States in Crystal, and Charles Marion Russell sculptures and illustrated letters are on view during these changes.

Gallery 1: Exploring America’s FrontiersEarly exploration art of the American West. John James Audubon (The Birds of America, double elephant folio) to Thomas Moran. Nineteenth century.
Gallery 2: Picturing the Wild WestArt portraying the drama and romance of the Old West. Works by Frederic Remington, Charles Marion Russell, N.C. Wyeth, and others. Late nineteenth–early twentieth century.
Gallery 3: Portraying an Idyllic PlaceArt depicting the beauty of the landscape and the cultures of the West, especially of New Mexico. Features Taos Society of Artists, Georgia O’Keeffe, and others. Twentieth century.
Gallery 4: Creating from Traditions: Arts of the American IndiansBeadwork, baskets, pottery, jewelry, carvings, sculptures, prints, and other arts by American Indians. Nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
