SMA Studio

 
Give your students the opportunity to dive deeply into a studio project during this new program! Students will have an hour-and-a-half to work in our art studio with one of our teaching artists. Projects will be inspired by themes and topics on view in the museum. This program is limited to two classrooms and a maximum of 50 students. There will be no exceptions for capacity limits.

    Due to the nature of the projects, this program can only be offered a limited number of times per date.
     

    Clay Slab Creatures

    1st-5th Grades
    During this 1.5-hour studio program, elementary and intermediate students will have the opportunity to learn about three-dimensional ceramic art and create their own clay slab creature. Students will explore slab building and use texture to create a relief pattern. The clay slab creatures will be glazed and fired in the SMA pottery kiln following their visit.

    Fused Glass Mosaics

    6th-12th Grades
    During this 1.5-hour studio program, middle and high school students will have the opportunity to learn about fused glass and create their own fused glass mosaics. Students will explore the elements of art and design while creating an original mosaic. Fused glass mosaics will be fired in the SMA glass kiln following their visit.
    Teachers: Student artwork will be available for pick up three weeks following the studio visit. Teachers are responsible for picking up student artwork. Artwork not picked up by the end of the semester will be discarded.
