Join The W.H. Stark House Interpretation & Programming Manager, Joshua Cole, for a free lunchtime lecture on the story of the 18th Amendment – which banned the sale, production, and transportation of “intoxicating liquors” – and the Volstead Act created to enforce it. Texans played a major role in the National Prohibition Movement and the debate between “Dry” and “Wet” divided the state. This talk will discuss the social, economic, and cultural factors that led to Prohibition and the local connections in its creation. The Lutcher/ Stark family was heavily involved in promoting the local “Dry” movement – come explore their motivations and associations that led them to support “that noble experiment.”

Bring your own lunch and enjoy complimentary “mocktails” in celebration of the event.

Participants should enter through the Museum’s main entrance at 712 Green Avenue, Orange, TX.
